The God Virus - Episode 10 with Dr. Darrel Ray

Dr. Darrel Ray joins us on Living After Faith to help us better understand how we are infected with the "God Virus." Like any virus, it's important to remember that there is no guilt for catching it. The focus is to recover from it.

  1. I'd just like to comment on your discussion of "vaccinating" your children, which I think is a wonderful idea. I'd been doing this for some time with my own daughters, and I've always used that same phrase: "vaccinating". I've discovered that the Unitaritan Universalists have an educational program called "Neighboring Faiths", which I have my 7th grader participating in right now, and which I recommend highly. They spend a class session learning about a religion, then often in a following week they make a visit. So far my daughter has been to a Hindu Temple, 2 different Buddhist temples, and an Islamic center. Last week they had a Wiccan guest speaker. I can't wait to see what they will do in the spring, but I am hoping they visit a Mega-church, a Mormon Church and a Synagogue at the very least. In my area this is taught in 7th grade, which seems a good time for this kind of thing, a time when the kids are old enough to think through a lot of issues for themselves. A lot of adults I have spoken to about this program have immediately said "wow, I need a class like that too!"
